Who am I and What is Velocity Cycles?
My name is Justin Sheldon. I have been infatuated with bicycles from a single digit age. Having always look after my bikes and my friends. I would cycle to school in all weathers and would venture out on my bike in my free time.
Training at 16 with an apprenticeship in refrigeration and air conditioning and have moved through the ranks. I have always been involved with engineering, including my first year at an engineering college, learning fabrication, turning and lathes.
During that time, also carried on with cycling as a hobby and thoroughly enjoyed it. At 20, I started a job in which there was a mountain bike club. So, bought my first mountain bike. There would be weekend and away rides and sparked a passion away from my road bikes.
I have competed in MTB races and events with Gorrick and Trail Breaks. Track cycling at Palmer Park and Manchester Velodrome with my custom-built track bike was fun, if a little daunting on the banking. I was an active member of Berks-On-Bikes MTB, organised European holidays and guided UK weekend trips for other cycling companies. Not all riders are racers and although I participated in racing, would rather do a long MTB, gravel or road century ride and orienteering events at my own pace or with friends.
Carrying on with still repairing friends and family’s bikes, custom building bikes and decided to follow my passion and become Cytech accredited to be able to start supporting local cyclists and wheelchair users. Velocity Cycles is registered with the Association of Cycle Traders. Also being the recognised wheel repair shop for Thames Valley Kings wheelchair basketball team and will assist with wheelchair repairs as well, not just sports chairs.
The business runs out of my workshop, at home, so to keep overheads lower, so passing this saving to customers. I can collect bikes at a convenient time if required. Costs are on the Pricing List. We have many rides around here with big distances, such as the King Alfreds Way, Royal Chiltern, Kennet and Avon and Ridgeway. We are mobile and can support you, should the unthinkable happen of a mechanical failure. This will be available for group rides, company organised events, as well as individual riders.
It doesn’t matter what you ride, from kids bikes to fully fledged elite bikes, I am here to assist you. All cycles need to be looked after to be safe and mechanically work. To detect faults before they manifest into anything dangerous or expensive to resolve. It can be daunting if you have regular bike and taking it to some of the bigger bike shops, but it’s not in our ethos for our business to make you feel that way. We are here to help you enjoy your bicycles safely and reliably, whatever type or any age group. Please support local small businesses and contact me for how we can assist you.
